Financial Literacy for Youth and Adults
Volunteers help increase financial awareness among community members. Participants explore effective strategies to make ends meet, such as starting a business, opening a bank account, creating a budget, paying for college, and avoiding predatory lending practices.
Career Exploration Job & Life Skills
Individuals are introduced to career preparation skills and techniques including resume writing, interviewing, dressing for success and networking during this one to three-week program held in May. Volunteers also help student’s complete self-assessments and learn more about occupations and industries in which they express interest.
Speak Up Program
Volunteers work with students to gain confidence in their public speaking skills by introducing them to improvisation, speech and debate, toastmasters, and spoken word poetry. In this four-week program that runs every July, students practice these different methods and create original speeches to recite for a class competition. Students then get to recite their original pieces during our annual Speak Up wine & cheese fundraising event the 1st week in August.
We work with community partners to offer opportunities that help transform community centers, schools and other city agencies by cataloging and sorting books at libraries, applying a fresh coat of paint in classrooms and hallways and painting murals that create inspiring learning environments.
Weekly classes that embrace your creative side through a variety of art-based activities, including dance, music, theater, photography, craft projects and other specialized workshops.
