We are lucky to have a core staff and community leaders that truly care. And our supporters are just as dedicated. Nothing is more important to us than helping ensure our community's youth have access to after school programs and services.

 Fall 2018

Homework Help grades k to 5 (1hr session Tuesday to Saturday)

Students gain skills to help them succeed in school, on standardized tests and beyond the classroom. Volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups with elementary or middle school students to enhance their math, science, reading and writing abilities.

 

Financial Literacy Teens and Adults (2hr session once a week)

Volunteers help teens increase their financial awareness before they embark on life after high school. Participants explore effective strategies to make ends meet, such as opening a bank account, creating a budget, paying for college, and avoiding predatory lending practices.

Career Exploration and Preparation (2hr session once a week)

Middle school and high school students are introduced to career preparation skills and techniques including resume writing, interviewing, dressing for success and networking during this one to three-week program. Volunteers also help students complete self-assessments and learn more about occupations and industries in which they express interest.

 

Speak Up (2hr session once a week)

Volunteers help students in grades 8 and 9 gain confidence in their public speaking skills by introducing them to improvisation, speech and debate, toastmasters, and spoken word poetry. In this ten-week program, students practice these different methods and create original speeches to recite for a class competition.

 

Revitalization (2hr session once a month)

Transform community centers, schools and other city agencies by cataloging and sorting books at libraries, applying a fresh coat of paint in classrooms and hallways and painting murals that create inspiring learning environments.

 

Seniors  (2hr session twice a month)

From playing Bingo to knitting scarves and hats, volunteers help bring smiles and happier days to seniors living in nursing homes. Each project is designed to keep seniors physically and mentally fit.

 

Modern Etiquette Class  (2hr session once a month)

In only 1 class you will see a difference in your child, tween or teen. Kids and teens who've participated in our programs and classes have been able to show an immediate grasp of the etiquette lessons and more importantly really walk away with an enthusiasm for making use of them.

 

Daddy Daughter Time (1hr session once a week)

Daddy Daughter Time is event-based and seeks to connect dads and daughters in a meaningful way with monthly events, and information designed specifically for a father/daughter relationship. We aim to build and improve bonds that will last a lifetime.

 

Self Sufficiency & Life Skills (1hr session Tuesday to Saturday)

Cooking workshops, laundry basics, how to create a budget, plan for college, compose a resume and other essential life saving techniques such as CPR & First Aid training. These sessions are structured based on one-on-one mentoring or in small group settings.

 

Woodshop (2hr session once a week)

Projects include fire trucks, birdhouses, picture frames, toolboxes, mail organizers, race cars, and planters just to name a few. Workshops are great for anyone to complete and take home.

**Limits to Be Aware of**

The workshop is for children ages 5-12. An adult will need to stay with the child during the entirety of the workshop. Project kits are only available while supplies last.

Art Explorers (2 hr session twice a month)

Children embrace their creative side through a variety of art-based activities, including dance, music, theater, photography, craft projects and other specialized workshops.
